Nobody fucking promised you‘d get rich or make some insane return. If your area is covered by someone else with a better setup, you‘re shit out of luck. Network infrastructure is a location game, unlike GPU mining. Just fucking admit you made a mistake and move in. People hold on to their hotspots in crowded areas and to their measly rewards as if their lives depended on it. But because we’re so „decentralized“ and „bottom-up“, we can’t get iver ourselves. That will spook people who want to sell trackers, for instance. We have way too many hotspots in the cities, and big gaps in the countryside. There’s design, development, testing, production, marketing … Lots of products are coming out, and lots more are on the drawing boards, deciding if they should launch or not. It takes time to develop and launch a product to work with the Helium network. I see three main factors for the current situation: Their return in HNT sits somewhere between 3% and 6% now, in $ the losses are abysmal. Not to mention the hardware and / or AWS services you needed to pay for. With the 10‘000 HNT staking requirement, it took an investment of $100‘000-400‘000 to become a validator, depending on timing. When the concept came about and we were preparing to switch to light hotspots, HNT was in the $10-15 range and kept climbing. Validators are the ones suffering the most.
